Question: 2001 Chevy Malibu Won't Start

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu and right now it won't start. It will crank but it won't start. What do you think is wrong? The fuel pump?

Answer: There are about 2,000 things that will keep the engine from starting. We can narrow things down by determining what's missing; fuel or spark. Take a can of carburetor cleaner with the red straw and remove a vacuum line from the intake manifold. Spray a good shot, 4 or 5 seconds, into the intake and replace the vacuum line. Then try to start the engine. If it starts and runs there is a fuel problem. If not there is an ignition problem. At least that will cut the possibilities in half.

Then you should check the computer for stored codes.

Question: House Brands Of Motor Oil

Are the house brands of motor oils sold by the major auto parts chains usually of good enough quality for continued use?

Answer: The house brands are just name brands packaged for retail stores. For example the Wal-Mart Peanut Butter is Skippy Peanut Butter in the Wal-Mart package.

Read the label on the package and if it meets or exceeds the oil requirements for your engine then you can safely use it.
