The American public is getting more aware of the environment every day. They are also more aware of the problems caused by fossil fuels, especially their diminishing reserves and ever increasing prices.

Americans are now beginning to realize that buying hybrid cars can contribute to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, save on fossil fuels and more importantly, cut down on the cost of driving. Some of the best selling hybrid vehicles, including hybrid SUVs are listed below.

Toyota Prius

According to the joint DOE-EPA Fuel Economy website, the Toyota Prius is the most fuel efficient car sold in the U.S. It gives on average 48 miles to the gallon. Figures released by Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. in Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., Ca. on Jan. 3, 2008 show that the Prius outsells all other hybrids put together. The Prius has style, safety and economy to spare. Although the tax incentives on hybrid cars provided by the government has run out on Toyota models (they have sold too many), the Prius continues to sell in large numbers, even outselling some non hybrid models.
