Mater's Tall Tales, also known as Cars-Toons, was a series that aired on the Disney Channel in 2008. The series was put into production in 2006, after the success of the first Cars movie. The last episode was aired in November 2010, but the series is still currently showing episode repeats on ABC Kids and Disney Junior. Disney has now released the series on a DVD, which features 2 brand new episodes not previously shown on TV: Moon Mater and Mater, Private Eye. The episode Tokyo Mater was shown in cinemas as a short before the movie Bolt.
Each short story on the DVD is only about 2-3 minutes long and follows a set formula: Mater the truck (Larry the Cable Guy) usually begins each episode by talking to his friends about his adventures in his younger days. Each story has a completely unbelievable and crazy scenario, but that is where the laughs come from. For example, in one story, Mater is a famous bulldozer fighter, called "El Materdor". In another, he goes to Tokyo, gets "modifications" and takes part in a drift race against several ninja cars!
About halfway through each story, his friend, racing car Lightning McQueen (Keith Ferguson, not the original Owen Wilson), starts laughing and says "...that did NOT happen!", to which Mater always replies: "...well you wuz there too..." with the story continuing from where it left off, but now including McQueen too. At the end of each story, there is usually some kind of twist, which proves that Mater was telling the truth after all!
